DR Congo Kolwe
Little Sister is thrilled to offer this coffee from the women of Idjwi Island in DRC, who are members of the cooperative ‘Rebuild Women's Hope’ (RWH). RWH was founded in 2013 with the goal of fighting the inequalities women face in the coffee industry, while supporting the health and empowerment of women and girls in the surrounding communities. The creation of cooperatives like RWH has opened the door to new opportunities for women producers on Idjwi and in the DRC in general. RWH manages five washing stations on Idjwi - this coffee comes from the Kolwe station. Coffee here has only the cherry skin removed before going through dry and wet fermentations. From there, the coffee is washed, graded, and sorted, before it is dried on raised beds for roughly three weeks. We are tasting juicy stone fruit, tart acidity and candy-like sweetness in the cup!
